
About the Role
As a Customer Engineer (CE) at Cloudflare, you are the core driver of our technical go-to-market strategy. You will act as a trusted technical advisor and primary architect, guiding enterprise clients from initial pre-sales validation through onboarding, deployment, and lifecycle expansion. This is a quota-carrying role that leverages AI-augmented workflows to focus on high-value architectural design.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Validation: Lead deep-dive discovery, map complex infrastructure (DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, Network Security, Workers), and scope Proof of Concepts (PoCs).
- Customer Adoption: Design migration blueprints and serve as the primary technical contact for enterprise clients to ensure rapid time-to-value.
- Commercial Accountability: Carry a variable quota tied to new business and account growth; lead technical QBRs to demonstrate ROI to C-level stakeholders.
- Trusted Advisory: Maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders, providing thought partnership on security posture and deployment strategy.
- AI Orchestration: Utilize AI agents and LLMs to automate routine tasks like security questionnaires and documentation, allowing more time for strategic advisory.
- Education: Partner with enablement teams to build technical resources, SOPs, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Experience: Proven track record in a customer-facing technical role (Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Technical Account Management).
- Architectural Mindset: Ability to whiteboard and articulate complex network and security architectures.
- Technical Breadth: Proficiency in at least four areas: Internet fundamentals (OSI, BGP, DNS, HTTP), Security (WAF, Zero Trust, SASE), Performance (latency, caching), AI/LLM workflows, Scripting (Python, Go, JS), or Developer Platforms (APIs, CI/CD, IaC).
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes for C-suite executives.
- Education: Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Travel
This role may require travel up to 20–50% for customer meetings and industry events.
