The Role

As a Senior Customer Engineer for the Public Sector Federal team, you are the technical lynchpin throughout the sales cycle. You will act as a technical advocate, educating prospects and customers on Cloudflare’s global network, designing solutions, and supporting long-term technology strategies.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical discussions and implementations to generate and expand business.
• Conduct technical requirements discovery, lead demonstrations, and manage proofs-of-concept (PoCs).
• Advise existing customers on technical best practices and strategic guidance.
• Focus on the Dept. of Defense & DISA segments.
• Travel: This role requires 35-45% travel for meetings, conferences, and team collaboration.

Requirements

• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of OSI Model (layers 1-7), Routing (TCP/UDP), DNS, HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS.
• Infrastructure: Experience with SASE frameworks (SWG, CASB, DLP, SD-WAN) and on-premise networking/legacy systems.
• Experience: Minimum 4 years in a customer-facing sales or consulting role supporting the US Federal Government.
• Soft Skills: Strong project management, relationship building, and EQ. Ability to translate complex technical jargon for diverse audiences.
• Compliance: Must be authorized to receive software/technology controlled under U.S. export laws.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with command-line interfaces, RESTful APIs, and web inspector tools.
• Experience serving the US Department of Defense or DISA market segment.
• Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields (not strictly required).
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure/AWS/GCP Architect).
