Senior Forward Deployed Engineer - Cloudflare

About the Role

Cloudflare’s Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) operate at the intersection of product engineering and customer impact. You will be embedded within strategic global customer teams, writing production code, shaping technical architecture, and influencing how Cloudflare products are used at scale.

Responsibilities

• Deep Technical Embedding: Serve as a long-term technical partner within a strategic customer’s engineering organization.
• Production-Level Engineering: Design, build, and deploy production-ready code and configurations directly into customer infrastructure.
• Technical Accountability: Own the account's technical success and serve as the primary technical point of contact.
• Operational Integration: Participate in customer engineering rituals, including standups, design reviews, and incident response.
• Platform Advocacy: Identify opportunities to accelerate the adoption of Cloudflare services.
• Feedback Loop: Surface real-world edge cases and product gaps to Cloudflare’s internal Product and Engineering teams.
• Strategic Relationship Management: Maintain trusted technical relationships with senior leadership (Staff+ engineers, Directors, and VPs).
• On-Site Presence: Maintain a regular on-site presence at customer locations to foster deep collaboration.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Engineering Pedigree: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of delivering production-grade systems.
• Languages: Proficiency in modern languages such as TypeScript, Rust, or Golang.
• Operational Maturity: Experience owning mission-critical services, including on-call rotations and incident response.
• Full-Stack Depth: Broad technical fluency from frontend performance and backend logic to database optimization and distributed infrastructure.
• AI-Native Development: Experience integrating AI-augmented workflows (e.g., Windsurf, OpenCode) into the development cycle.
• Cloud Ecosystem: Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Executive Presence: Ability to engage in high-stakes technical discussions with VP-level stakeholders.

Bonus Points

• Direct experience building on Cloudflare Workers or the broader Cloudflare Developer Platform.
• Previous experience at a fast-paced startup or in a customer-facing engineering role.
• A visible public profile (open-source contributions, technical blogging, or conference speaking).
