Senior Software Engineer - Egress (Go/Rust)

About the Role

The Egress team owns a critical aspect of Cloudflare's network-as-a-service: Egress connectivity for our vast portfolio of products. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor to the network software infrastructure powering products like WARP, Zero Trust, and the iCloud Private Relay egress proxy.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Network Engineering, and SRE teams to translate requirements into new platform capabilities while ensuring optimal use of Cloudflare's global edge network.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, and implement complex systems using Go and Rust.
• Manage the full software development lifecycle, including automated testing, release planning, and production deployments.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as part of our 'Run What You Build' model.
• Investigate and resolve escalated customer issues.
• Leverage AI-powered tools to analyze codebases, introspect production systems, and accelerate problem-solving.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams via daily meetings and internal communication channels.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Proficiency in Go or Rust, with a desire to master both.
• Solid understanding of OSI Model Layers 3 and 4.
• Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and CDN network architectures.
• Experience building secure, highly-available distributed systems.
• Strong debugging skills for complex, large-scale systems.
• Willingness to integrate AI-assisted development tools into your daily workflow.

Bonus Points

• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet routing.
• Professional systems-level programming experience in Rust.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, and debugging distributed systems.
• Prior experience in an on-call rotation.

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive salary (Portugal range: €66,000 - €91,000).
