Senior Software Engineer, Security Rules - Cloudflare

About the Role

Cloudflare is looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join the Security Rules team. You will build and operate the software powering our Application Security products, including Rate Limiting and the Web Application Firewall. You will work primarily in Rust, contributing to high-growth, fault-tolerant microservices that operate at a massive global scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and maintain software systems for Cloudflare’s Application Security product offering.
• Lead technical design and execution for complex projects, defining architecture, tradeoffs, and delivery plans.
• Collaborate with security, network engineering, SRE, and product management teams to solve difficult technical problems.
• Raise the technical bar by identifying systemic improvements and reducing operational toil.
• Review peer work to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
• Mentor engineers by sharing technical context and providing thoughtful design feedback.
• Work with a diverse tech stack including Rust, Go, PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, Redis, Memcached, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• 6+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong programming skills in Rust, Go, C++, or similar systems-level languages.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from ambiguity to delivery.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on empathy and teamwork.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, and debugging high-volume production systems.
• Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases.
