About the Role
The Egress team owns a critical aspect of Cloudflare's network-as-a-service: egress connectivity for our portfolio of products. As a member of the Egress team, you will be a key technical contributor to cutting-edge network software infrastructure used by products such as WARP, Zero Trust, and Cloudflare's egress proxy for iCloud Private Relay.
You will work closely with various engineering teams to translate requirements into new capabilities on the platform, partnering with Network Engineering and SRE to optimize Cloudflare's edge network. We operate under a "Run What You Build" model where engineers participate in an on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Design systems, write specifications, push code via Git, and plan production releases.
- Coordinate and roll out complex production software changes.
- Participate in daily and ad-hoc team meetings to share progress and collaborate.
- Participate in the team’s on-call schedule to ensure uptime of production systems.
- Investigate and triage escalated customer issues to resolution.
- Respond to cross-team inquiries in internal channels.
- Integrate AI-powered tools into daily workflows for code analysis, log exploration, and problem-solving.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a track record of owning distributed, production-critical system architectures.
- Programming experience in Go or Rust, with a desire to deepen skills in both.
- Solid grasp of networking protocols across Layers 3 and 4 of the OSI Model.
- Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and CDN networks.
- Experience implementing secure, highly available distributed systems.
- Strong debugging, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Experience with or interest in HTTP networking, VPN technologies, and network performance tuning.
- Willingness to integrate AI tools into engineering workflows.
Bonus Points
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet routing.
- Professional systems-level programming experience in Rust.
- Experience building internal tools and APIs.
- Experience monitoring, alerting, and debugging large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience participating in a production on-call rotation.
Compensation & Equity
- For Portugal-based hires: Estimated annual base salary is €54,000 - €75,000.
- This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare’s equity plan.
