Software Engineer, Security Rules - Cloudflare

About the Role

Cloudflare is looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join the Security Rules team. You will work on a range of microservices—primarily in Rust—to build and operate the software powering our Application Security product offerings, such as Rate Limiting and the Web Application Firewall.

What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and maintain software systems for Cloudflare’s Application Security products.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design and documentation to coding, testing, and production monitoring.
• Collaborate with security, network engineering, SRE, and product management teams to solve complex technical challenges.
• Review peer code to ensure high-quality, maintainable systems.
• Mentor team members and contribute to the operational health of our services.
• Work with a diverse tech stack including Rust, Go, PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, Redis, Memcached, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of professional experience in a technology company.
• Strong programming skills in Rust, Go, C++, or similar systems-level languages.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems.
• Proficiency in monitoring, alerting, and debugging high-volume production systems.
• Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on empathy and teamwork.

Bonus Points

• Experience with modern Unix/Linux development environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
