Systems Engineer - Global Resource Management (Data Residency)

About the Role

Cloudflare operates one of the world's largest networks, processing millions of requests per second. The Global Resource Management (GRM) team is building a centralized metadata layer to enable customers to organize, group, and govern resources across all Cloudflare products. As a Systems Engineer, you will build the platform infrastructure that powers these cross-cutting operations.

What You'll Work On

  • Backend Engineering: Build and operate microservices and REST APIs for the tag-api platform.
  • API Design: Define data models, implement endpoints, and handle validation, quota enforcement, and concurrency control.
  • Scaling: Build bulk operations APIs capable of handling thousands of resources per request while managing consistency and latency.
  • Collaboration: Work horizontally with teams across Cloudflare (Workers, Zero Trust, DNS, Billing) to onboard resources and integrate services.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems at scale.
  • Proficiency in Go.
  • Experience designing and building REST APIs (routing, authentication, request lifecycle).
  • Comfort with PostgreSQL (schema design, migrations, query optimization, replication).
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive alignment across distributed teams.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems tradeoffs (consistency models, event-driven replication).

Nice to Have

  • Experience building platform infrastructure or internal developer tools.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes for service operations.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Watermill).
  • Familiarity with edge computing platforms like Cloudflare Workers.

Why This Role

  • Platform Impact: Build foundational infrastructure used by every Cloudflare product.
  • High Autonomy: Work in a small, high-impact team with significant influence over technical decisions.
  • Greenfield Work: Define new patterns and systems rather than maintaining legacy code.

Benefits

Cloudflare offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plans, employee stock participation, flexible PTO, and parental/medical leave programs.
