Member of Technical Staff (Storage) - Cockroach Labs

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Storage team. You will work on Pebble, CockroachDB’s innovative Log Structured Merge (LSM) Tree storage engine. This team is responsible for the safe, durable, and efficient persistence and retrieval of data, as well as higher-layer storage features like MVCC APIs and Enterprise Encryption At Rest (EAR).

You Will

• Contribute to the growth of CockroachDB by building a database that makes data easy for everyone.
• Develop in Go (training provided if needed).
• Improve the performance and scalability of CockroachDB.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams across database and cloud offerings.
• Utilize state-of-the-art AI-assisted planning and development tools.
• Ensure the database remains scalable, survivable, and consistent.

You Have

• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with complex technical products and distributed systems, concurrency control, file systems, or memory management.
• Proficiency in Go, C/C++, Java, or Python.
• A solid grasp of product architecture and team interactions.
• Experience or strong interest in AI-centric development workflows.
• The discipline to use AI as an augmentation tool while maintaining high standards for production output.
• A BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Bonus: Experience with storage systems (LSM Trees, Pebble) or large-scale distributed systems in production.

Work Model

Cockroach Labs operates on a hybrid model. Employees local to an office are expected in-person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with flexibility for the remainder of the week.
