Member of Technical Staff (Test Engineering) - Cockroach Labs

About the Role

Cockroach Labs is seeking a Member of Technical Staff to join our Test Engineering team. In this role, you will push our product to new frontiers by focusing on quality, correctness, and performance. This is not a manual QA role; you will be an engineer building the tools, frameworks, and infrastructure that allow our organization to ship high-quality, resilient distributed systems.

Focus Areas

• Test Infrastructure: Enabling automated test execution, performance regression detection, and fuzzing.
• Exploratory Testing: Implementing static/dynamic analysis, metamorphic testing, and failure injection.
• Performance and Scalability: Enabling at-scale benchmarking and microbenchmarks.

You Will

• Develop test strategies and methodologies for complex distributed systems.
• Build and scale test infrastructure and bug-finding tools.
• Develop static and dynamic analyzers.
• Perform at-scale cloud benchmarking.
• Prioritize and execute test suites representative of real-world customer workloads.
• Maintain rigorous validation habits, including the safe and responsible integration of AI-assisted tools.

Expectations

• First 30 Days: Integrate into the engineering team, learn our production systems, and complete a starter project.
• Month 2: Align with team objectives and own a medium-sized project.
• Month 3: Become a fully contributing member, capable of scoping and proposing future engineering projects.

You Have

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer writing clean, idiomatic code.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience with GCP or AWS.
• Proven experience in at least one of the following: Database/Distributed Systems Testing, Static Code Analysis, or Failure Mode Analysis.
• Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
