Principal Product Manager, Orbit - GitLab

About the Role

As Principal Product Manager for Orbit, you will define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for GitLab's software lifecycle context graph. You will build the foundation that connects source code and development lifecycle data into a structured map of systems, relationships, and dependencies, enabling engineers and AI agents to better understand software development.

What You'll Do

• Vision & Strategy: Define the multi-year roadmap for Orbit, covering graph models, ingestion, indexing, query interfaces, and enterprise readiness.
• Product Leadership: Translate complex platform opportunities into measurable customer outcomes. Partner with Engineering and Design to navigate architecture tradeoffs.
• AI Integration: Utilize AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitLab Duo) to prototype, investigate, and accelerate development workflows.
• Customer Discovery: Lead discovery with developers, security teams, and technical executives to validate needs around change impact, vulnerability exposure, and delivery risk.
• Go-to-Market: Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to define target use cases, pricing, packaging, and adoption strategies.
• Influence: Align cross-functional teams and executive leadership on complex tradeoffs and product direction.

What You'll Bring

• Experience owning complex technical products or platforms at a Staff or Principal level.
• Deep technical fluency in developer tools, DevOps, knowledge graphs, distributed systems, or AI infrastructure.
• Ability to work credibly with engineers on data models, APIs, and system scale.
• Proven track record of taking a product from early concept through launch and adoption.
• Strong business judgment regarding market assessment, pricing, and commercialization.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across functions.
