Senior CX Platform Engineer - GitLab

GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, enabling organizations to increase developer productivity, improve operational efficiency, and reduce security risk. We embrace AI as a core productivity multiplier, expecting all team members to incorporate AI into their daily workflows.

An overview of this role

As a Senior CX Platform Engineer, you'll help GitLab's Customer Experience (CX) teams hand real work to artificial intelligence (AI). You'll use Claude Code and GitLab Duo Agent Platform as your default development tools, designing agentic workflows and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers with production testing, security, and shared ownership. This is a software engineering role, not ticket-taking internal IT, AI evangelism disconnected from shipped code, or customer-billable Professional Services delivery.

What you'll do

  • Use Claude Code, GitLab Duo, and other coding agents as your primary development environment for planning, implementation, refactoring, testing, reviews, and documentation. Run multiple agents in parallel on well-scoped tasks, critically review their output, and own every line that reaches production.
  • Build and maintain the team's agent harness, including shared AGENTS.md conventions, skills, slash commands, hooks, subagent definitions, and continuous integration checks.
  • Ship agents and multi-step workflows for account research, success planning, scoping, status reporting, and customer onboarding.
  • Build MCP servers and connectors for governed access to enterprise systems (Salesforce, Gainsight, Snowflake, etc.), adding evaluations, tracing, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
  • Evolve the CX Application Platform's gateway, AWS infrastructure (ECS, RDS, Lambda), Terraform configuration, application scaffold, and deployment path.
  • Ship production-quality Python and TypeScript through GitLab CI/CD, with tests, observability, security review, and runbooks.
  • Prototype with Customer Success, Digital Success, Professional Services, Education Services, and Training in days, and turn field learning into reusable reference implementations.
  • Contribute upstream to GitLab, share product feedback, and mentor engineers and non-engineers on agentic development.

What you'll bring

  • Experience building and operating production software, owning multi-quarter work from ambiguity to production, and designing for handoff.
  • Daily, hands-on use of coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or GitLab Duo on production work.
  • Experience building with large language models (LLMs) beyond chat, including tool use, MCP servers, agent loops, context design, and evaluations.
  • Strong Python skills with FastAPI or Flask and TypeScript skills with Vue or React.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS ECS, RDS, and Lambda, Terraform, Docker, and SSO systems like Okta.
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems through REST and GraphQL APIs, and fluency with Git and CI/CD.
  • Strong asynchronous communication and documentation skills, aligned with GitLab's values.
