Senior Professional Services Engineer - Japan

About the Role

As a Senior Professional Services Engineer at GitLab, you will work directly with customers to deliver installation, migration, training, and advisory services. You will lead engagements ranging from single-node Omnibus installs to large-scale reference architectures using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivery: Execute installation, migration, and advisory engagements across GitLab capabilities.
• Technical Leadership: Plan and deploy complex architectures using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Migration Strategy: Lead migrations from legacy systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed deployments.
• Customer Advisory: Act as a trusted technical advisor, translating customer constraints into actionable implementation plans.
• Collaboration: Partner with Engagement and Project Managers to refine delivery processes and remove friction.
• Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and support to Associate and Intermediate Professional Services Engineers.
• Feedback Loop: Interface with product and engineering teams to share customer insights and improve the GitLab platform.

What You’ll Bring

• Technical Expertise: Professional experience with IaC/Configuration as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef).
• Cloud Proficiency: Experience with at least two major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• GitLab Knowledge: Experience deploying or configuring GitLab, with a solid understanding of Git workflows.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal English skills, with the ability to build consensus in an asynchronous environment.
• Problem Solving: A solution-oriented mindset capable of managing multiple concurrent customer engagements.
• Location: Must be located in Japan with full working rights.
