The Opportunity

Application Core Services (AppCore) is a group within Platform, in the Foundations department. Foundations produces the Internal Engineering Platform (IEP) and partners closely with our Cloud, Enterprise, and Grafana teams. Our team develops the essential systems driving Grafana's business operations.

The Usage squad owns the essential systems driving Grafana's business operations and customer usage calculations. Our domain encompasses maintaining the billing engine responsible for customer usage calculation, cost management and billing applications, automating provisioning after a customer signs a contract, integrating with cloud marketplaces (AWS, Azure, GCP), and building and maintaining the customer user portal. This role is approximately 75% FrontEnd and 25% BackEnd.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design, build, operate, and evolve reliable full-stack web applications, customer-facing account portals, and backend services that power core customer usage and billing workflows
• Build and maintain backend APIs (Golang, Node.js) and intuitive user interfaces using modern frontend technologies (TypeScript, React)
• Design and maintain integrations between Grafana systems and external business platforms such as NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Develop and automate business logic for customer usage metering, pricing structures, promotions, and billing reconciliation
• Collaborate across product management, DealOps, GTM, Support, and adjacent AppCore squads to deliver robust end-to-end features
• Address technical debt, optimize CI/CD pipelines, strengthen test coverage, and improve system observability and operational resilience
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers while shaping pragmatic solutions for complex systems challenges
• Contribute to roadmap planning, technical design, OnCall improvements, and long-term simplification of stack operations
• Help own the production behavior of systems you build, including improving runbooks, dashboards, alerts, rollout controls, and recovery procedures

Requirements

• At least 1 year of fully remote work experience
• Experience working on a large SaaS platform dealing with common distributed systems problems (scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, high availability)
• Strong professional experience with backend technologies (Golang, Node.js) as well as modern frontend web development (TypeScript, React)
• Deep care for developer and user experience and product quality
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end in a self-driven way
• Track record of writing clean, robust, well-tested code that peers can operate and maintain
• Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative, asynchronous environment
• Ability to break complex challenges down into iterative, modular deliverables
• Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet)

Bonus Points

• Experience with high-volume usage metering, billing engines, or customer-facing cost management applications
• Experience designing and maintaining integrations with third-party business systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, Cloud Marketplaces)
• Experience with frontend component libraries, design systems, and modern CSS-in-JS tooling
• Familiarity with cloud marketplace integrations and SaaS provisioning/tenancy patterns
• Experience with incident response involving configuration drift, partial failure, or cross-service state mismatch

Compensation & Benefits

• Canada Compensation: $186,368 - $223,642 CAD base salary (dependent on level, experience, and skillset)
