Staff Product Manager, OpenTelemetry - Grafana Labs

About the Role

As the Staff Product Manager for OpenTelemetry Experience, you will own the end-to-end journey for helping users and agents instrument workloads and send telemetry data to Grafana Cloud. Your mission is to make Grafana Cloud the easiest and most trusted destination for OpenTelemetry workloads by reducing complexity and failure points in the instrumentation process.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Strategy & Roadmap: Define the vision and cross-product roadmap for the journey from uninstrumented workloads to healthy, actionable telemetry.
• Experience Design: Create opinionated, coherent experiences for SDK instrumentation, automatic instrumentation (e.g., Beyla, SDK injection), and Collector-based deployments.
• Problem Solving: Identify and eliminate causes of setup failure, misconfiguration, and low-quality telemetry.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Establish shared principles and success criteria across Engineering, Design, Documentation, and GTM teams.
• Data-Driven Decisions: Use customer research and product signals to prioritize investments and measure outcomes like onboarding completion and telemetry health.
• Ecosystem Engagement: Represent Grafana Labs in OpenTelemetry ecosystem discussions and contribute where appropriate.
• AI Integration: Utilize AI tools to accelerate research, prototype experiences, and test agent-led instrumentation workflows.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• 5+ years of Product Management experience in developer tools, observability, infrastructure, or data platforms.
• Proven track record of leading strategy across multiple teams without direct organizational authority.
• Strong working knowledge of OpenTelemetry (SDKs, OTLP, Collector pipelines, semantic conventions).
• Experience with instrumentation systems, agents, or configuration products.
• Understanding of software deployment across Kubernetes, VMs, and public cloud environments.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders in a distributed environment.

Bonus Points

• Experience contributing to the OpenTelemetry or open-source observability ecosystem.
• Familiarity with eBPF, automatic instrumentation, or runtime-based instrumentation.
• Firsthand experience as an SRE, platform engineer, or developer.
