Staff AI Operations Lead - Honeycomb

About Honeycomb

Honeycomb is defining observability and raising expectations of what developer tools can do. We work with companies like HelloFresh, Slack, LaunchDarkly, Vanguard, and more across various industries. Having closed Series D funding and scaled past 200 people, we are a fully distributed company where impact, autonomy, and trust matter most.

About the Problem Space

AI has changed what's possible in go-to-market, support, and business operations. The constraint is no longer "can we build it" β€” it's "can we deploy it into a real workflow, prove it made things better, and keep it working."

Most companies are stuck at the demo stage with clever prompting that rarely runs reliably without oversight. This role exists to move Honeycomb past that across all functions outside of engineering.

About the Team

You will sit on the Data team, operating at the seam between the business and its systems. The team partners daily with RevOps, Customer Success, Sales, and Product, and owns the core data infrastructure. In this role, you will have existing pipelines, data warehouses, and domain relationships in place to build reliable AI-driven workflows.

What You'll Do

As a senior individual contributor, your job is to turn slow, manual, or inconsistent business workflows into fast, automated, and measurably improved processes, leaving behind reusable scaffolding for future implementations.

Ship Automated Workflows End-to-End

  • Partner with department leaders to identify high-leverage workflows and evaluate where AI models genuinely add value.
  • Define and instrument success metrics upfront (cycle time, quality, cost, risk), reporting transparently on outcomes.
  • Deliver production-ready systems featuring evaluation harnesses, human-in-the-loop review when needed, and continuous monitoring.
  • Drive adoption through user research, thorough documentation, and PM-style iteration.

Build the Shared Substrate as You Go

  • Establish patterns for model access, agent orchestration, prompt and tool management, evaluation, logging, and cost control derived from real workflow needs.
  • Build on top of the Data team's existing infrastructure rather than creating parallel systems.
  • Co-own shared components with counterparts in Engineering, identifying dependencies early and aligning roadmaps.

Make the Company Fluent

  • Create templates, playbooks, and golden paths covering prompt patterns, agent patterns, safety checklists, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Host office hours, demos, and community-of-practice sessions to demystify AI adoption.
  • Develop tailored enablement materials for GTM, operations, and leadership audiences.
  • Help colleagues develop sound judgment on when to use AI and how to validate results.

Keep It Safe and Governable

  • Partner with Security, IT, and Legal on access control, data handling, vendor risk, and policy.
  • Collaborate with the Data team to enforce data classification standards, retrieval policies, and audit trails for sensitive data flowing through LLM pipelines.

What You'll Bring

  • Deep experience shipping production systems into business workflows depended on daily by non-technical users.
  • Hands-on fluency with modern AI stacks: LLMs, retrieval, tool use, agents, evaluation, and guardrails.
  • Strong domain curiosity to understand how non-engineering functions (support, sales, finance) operate day-to-day.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives without formal authority.
  • Comfort navigating enterprise security, privacy, and compliance tradeoffs (data classification, retention, access controls, vendor risk).
  • Clear communication and teaching instincts with the ability to explain complex concepts simply.
  • Agility to stay current with AI developments and adapt approaches as evidence evolves.

Nice to Have

  • SQL fluency and hands-on familiarity with the modern data stack (dbt, cloud data warehouses, BI tools).
  • Experience with enterprise workflow systems (ticketing, CRM, case management, knowledge bases).
  • Familiarity with AI observability practices: monitoring, quality signals, evaluation pipelines, and cost/latency tracking.
  • Change management experience within distributed organizations.
  • Interest in external evangelism (writing, speaking, podcasts).

Benefits

  • Generous equity with an employee-friendly stock program
  • Transparent, level-based compensation
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Fully distributed mindset and culture
  • Home office, co-working, and internet stipends
  • Comprehensive benefits coverage for employees, with dependent options
  • Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave
  • Annual development allowance
