At 5:00 a.m. on September 3, 1967, every driver in Sweden moved from the left side of the road to the right. The switch took a morning. Getting ready took four years of public education, and road signs across the country were swapped in one coordinated push. And the roads got safer.
The hard part of a big change is the getting ready: helping people trust something new, then making it feel obvious afterward. That's the heart of recruiting operations at Mercury.
Mercury is building the financial stack for ambitious companies: banking, payments, credit, and the workflows around them. Our recruiting team hires the people who build it, across engineering, sales, risk, operations, and everything in between. We run on an ATS, sourcing and scheduling tools, interview intelligence, our headcount planning system, Workday, and a growing library of AI workflows we've built ourselves.
In this role, you'll report to our Director of Recruiting and work day to day with our Staff Recruiting Operations Lead. You'll be the accountable owner of the systems our recruiters depend on. You'll lead big changes to how we work, including choosing and moving to new tools when the old ones hold us back. And you'll take our AI work from a set of useful skills to something the whole team runs on. This is a builder role with real autonomy, and what you ship will show up in every hire Mercury makes.
Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
What You'll Do
- Own recruiting systems end-to-end: Manage the ATS, sourcing and scheduling tools, interview intelligence, and integrations connecting them to Workday and our headcount planning tool.
- Lead large systems changes: Serve as accountable owner from vendor evaluation through data mapping, HRIS integration, cutover, and training.
- Manage recruiting vendors: Oversee contracts, renewals, costs, and tool efficacy.
- Maintain day-to-day operations: Handle permissions, offer workflows and approvals, troubleshooting, and support queries from recruiters and People Ops.
- Build AI workflows: Create dependable automations tested against real examples, documented, and running on schedules or triggers.
- Maintain the recruiting context layer: Keep process docs, role documents, and playbooks accessible for both human team members and AI agents.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with IT, People Ops, Finance, and the AI team to drive operational changes and maintain speed.
- Analyze hiring data: Use AI tools to interpret hiring metrics and translate insights into process improvements.
What You Should Have
- 5+ years in recruiting or talent operations at a tech company, including admin-level ownership of an ATS (Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, or similar) covering permissions, offer workflows, and integrations.
- AI & Automation experience: Proven track record of building AI workflows or automations used regularly by team members.
- Systems implementation: Experience leading a systems implementation, migration, or equivalent cross-functional project from decision to adoption.
- Pragmatic builder mindset: Preference for shipping simple, functional solutions quickly and iterating based on feedback.
- User-centered design: Ability to design processes accessible for all stakeholders, from coordinators to executives.
- Deep recruiting domain knowledge: Full-cycle recruiting experience is a strong plus; at minimum, extensive experience collaborating closely with recruiters.
- Cross-functional leadership: Strong communication and prioritization skills across teams you don't directly manage.
- Bonus points: Experience with Ashby, ATS migrations, or Workday integrations.
