Field Sales Specialist (Per Diem) - Newsela

About the Role

Field Sales Specialists (Per Diem) provide critical on-the-ground operational, logistical, and promotional support for Newsela’s California Core Adoption campaign. Working on an as-needed basis, these specialists serve as high-impact brand ambassadors who partner directly with Sales Consultants to execute local ground campaigns, manage sample and material drop-offs, staff regional conferences (e.g., CABE, CISC, CALSA), and support district pilot setups. Ideal candidates include former educators, retired K-12 administrators, curriculum TOSAs, or experienced EdTech field contractors.

Coverage Areas: Northern CA + Central Valley, Southern CA, Greater Los Angeles

What You'll Be Doing

  • Direct District & COE Drop-offs: Deliver print samples, pilot materials, and promotional collateral directly to County Offices of Education and school districts across assigned geographic areas.
  • School Site Engagement: Conduct drop-ins at middle and high school campuses to deliver core ELA preview materials and event invitations to department heads, ELA TOSAs, and principals.
  • Conference Setup & Tear-Down: Assist with the physical setup, arrangement of display materials, and tear-down of Newsela exhibition booths at statewide and regional conferences.
  • Booth Representation: When needed, provide additional manpower at conference booths to engage attendees, capture lead information, and introduce Threads & Themes.
  • Pilot Logistics: Support the delivery and distribution of pilot classroom materials, teacher guide packages, and student login collateral for active district pilot programs.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in K-12 education, educational sales support, conference event staffing, or field marketing within the EdTech/publishing industry (prior classroom teaching or curriculum experience in California is highly preferred).
  • Familiarity with the California public school system, County Offices of Education (COEs), and basic ELA/ELD instructional terminology.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, reliable personal vehicle, and proof of auto insurance (travel reimbursement provided).
  • Ability to lift and transport boxes of print materials/booth equipment weighing up to 35–40 lbs.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings for drop-offs or full days during multi-day educational conferences (no overnight travel).
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.

All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Hourly Rate: $25 – $30 / hour + mileage
