Who We Are
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side. Our goal is to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era.
About the Role
The Product Infrastructure team creates abstractions and data models that solve enduring problems across the stack. This role involves working on both front-end and backend systems to unblock new product avenues.
Note: This role is based in San Francisco or New York City. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days).
What You'll Achieve
- Shape and build: Develop core frameworks for reading and writing data in Notion using AWS, Postgres, NodeJS, TypeScript, and React.
- Design systems: Create abstractions that improve developer productivity, reliability, and performance.
- Solve technical challenges: Tackle complex problems like user content graph traversal, offline sync systems, and scaling permission models.
Skills You'll Need
- Thoughtful problem-solving: Ability to decompose tricky problems and work toward clean, context-aware solutions.
- Pragmatic mindset: Focus on business impact and balancing craft, speed, and the bottom line.
- Simplicity: Aim for well-crafted, simple designs and minimize technical complexity.
- Tech-agnostic: View technologies as tools for trade-offs rather than ideologies.
- Empathetic communication: Clear, nuanced communication of technical decisions.
- Collaboration: A team-first approach to cross-functional work.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with typed languages (TypeScript, Flow) for code migrations or building custom data modeling paradigms (ORMs, sync engines).
- Familiarity with scaling fundamental abstractions (e.g., TAO, Zanzibar).
- Interest in computing history and interdisciplinary fields like art or social sciences.
A Note on AI
We expect every Notino to be intellectually curious and excited to use AI as a collaborator. You don't need deep AI expertise for every role, but you should be comfortable using AI to think better and streamline work.
