About the Role
We are seeking a Tax Lead to join our global Tax and Treasury team. In this pivotal role, you’ll help Notion navigate a complex global tax environment, create tangible value, and strengthen our tax operations.
Note: This role is based in San Francisco. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (our Anchor Days) to collaborate in person.
What You'll Achieve
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert, identifying risks and advising leadership on tax implications of special projects.
- Direct all U.S. federal, state, local, GAAP, and SEC tax reporting requirements; prepare and review quarterly and year-end tax provisions.
- Drive operational efficiency by building a modern tax roadmap to automate processes and enhance SOX internal controls.
- Support IPO-readiness work streams, including SEC reporting, audit coordination, and effective tax rate modeling.
- Oversee global tax compliance, including withholding tax, transfer pricing, and multi-jurisdictional reporting.
- Develop audit defense strategies and advise leadership on controversy risk and financial statement implications (e.g., FIN 48).
- Partner with Legal, FP&A, Accounting, and Treasury to implement tax-efficient global structures.
- Mentor a high-performing tax team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
Skills You'll Need
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or Master of Taxation preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or at a multinational, high-growth company.
- Hands-on experience with quarterly/annual tax provisions and financial reporting.
- Experience with M&A tax due diligence and supporting tax-related transactions.
- Strong background in SEC reporting, SOX controls, and 10-Q/10-K tax disclosures.
- Proven ability to operate independently and manage complex technical work in a fast-paced environment.
- Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to use AI as a collaborator in your daily work.
