Senior Engineering Manager, Member Experience - Omada Health

Omada Health is on a mission to bend the curve of chronic disease.

Job Overview

We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to own a significant piece of Omada's Member-facing surface. You will own what gets built, in what order, and how the people building it grow. A squad owns problems from prototype to production, including maintenance and on-call rotation. At this level, you will own more than one squad, meaning your hardest calls will be about capacity allocation when multiple good things demand it.

You will stay technical, engaging with the codebase and agent workflows to review architecture, catch weak designs, and be useful in incidents. Where you manage directly, you will ship production work off the critical path. Where you manage through someone else, that person's growth is your primary work product.

You will partner with Product Strategists who focus on members, coaches, and stakeholders, and who prototype ideas quickly. They own what gets built and why. You will own whether it can be delivered, at what cost, and by when, and your seniority will allow you to shape the roadmap rather than just respond to it.

About You

You are comfortable being accountable for what your squads ship. You still write code and want to, shipping production work off the critical path in the same codebase and agent workflows as your squads, experiencing friction firsthand.

You have a point of view on where AI-assisted development helps and where it creates rework, derived from changing how a real team works. You have excelled at the engineering manager job well enough to teach it. Whether or not you have carried the title of manager-of-managers, you have grown someone into a leadership role and understand the difference between doing the work for them and raising their ceiling.

Your first team is your peer group, not your reports. When something is slowing down the engineering organization and it is nobody's job, you have a track record of picking it up, getting the right people in the room, and finishing it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own delivery across your squads. This includes sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation. Make the calls, document them, and be accountable. You will decide when two squads want the same thing simultaneously.
  • Own cycle time. Improve cycle time without sacrificing quality, and explain changes, including why one of your squads might be slower than another.
  • Stay technical. For squads you manage directly, ship production work every sprint, off the critical path, in the same agent workflows your builders use. For squads managed by another manager, stay close enough to review architecture, catch weak designs, and assist in incidents. In either case, you can teach someone to navigate the system, not just navigate it yourself.
  • Partner with your Product Strategist. They own what the squad builds; you maintain the boundary between their scope and yours to ensure consistent direction for the squad.
  • Grow a manager. If an Engineering Manager reports to you, their growth is your work product, evidenced by their squad's health.
  • Plan the team you need next year, not just this quarter. This includes headcount, skill mix, and an onboarding path that makes a new builder productive in an agent-heavy codebase in weeks.
  • Set the AI standard past your own boundary. Document what good looks like, teach it, and measure its adoption. Other squads should be able to use what you built independently.
  • Take on the problem that is nobody's. Identify issues that broadly slow down engineering, and pick up, organize, and resolve relevant ones with your peers.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years managing engineers directly.
  • Experience developing another leader: a manager who reported to you, or an engineer you grew into a tech lead or EM role with real accountability attached. Be prepared to discuss their current role.
  • A track record of shipping mission-critical software to production and living with it afterwards. You own your mistakes and turn them into improvements.
  • Experience owning prioritization and estimation for a team, including saying no, not now, and explaining why.
  • Experience giving direct developmental feedback, and at least one case where you managed someone through underperformance with real support.
  • Currently shipping, or recently shipping, production code in at least one layer of our stack (backend (Ruby, Python, ...), web frontends (React), iOS, or Android), with enough range to follow conversations in other layers and critically review architecture decisions.
  • Comfort with an expert-generalist team model, where a backend-heavy builder ships in the mobile app and a mobile-heavy one ships in the backend. You understand its transformative nature, risks, and opportunities.
  • Hands-on experience directing AI agents through real-world production changes, and a considered view on where they help and where they produce rework.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry, sufficient to assess your squad's operational story.
  • Excellent written communication. Much of this job involves writing things down clearly once to avoid repeated arguments.

About Omada Health

Omada Health is reverse engineering the way healthcare is delivered in America, putting the space between doctor visits—where health is won or lost—at the center of care. Today's healthcare system poorly serves chronic conditions that require ongoing support outside of the exam room, like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, and musculoskeletal conditions. Omada’s virtual-first model combines human-led care teams, connected devices, and AI-enabled technology to deliver personalized care at scale, including support for GLP-1 therapy. Omada has served more than two million members since launch across 2,000+ employers, health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, and health systems. Learn more at omadahealth.com.
