About PostHog
Product development used to mean manually writing code, running analysis, diagnosing bugs, and rolling out changes using dozens of tools.
PostHog makes products self-driving. It's the only platform that acts like a co-pilot for you (and your AI agents) to do it all – autonomously.
We started with open-source product analytics, launched out of Y Combinator's W20 cohort. We've since shipped more than a dozen products, including PostHog Desktop, a built-in data warehouse, and PostHog AI.
We are:
- Product-led: More than 450,000 organizations have installed PostHog, mostly driven by word-of-mouth.
- Default alive: Revenue is growing quickly and efficiently.
- Well-funded: We've raised more than $180m from top investors.
Things we care about
- Transparency: Everyone can read about our roadmap, compensation, strategy, and operations in our public company handbook.
- Autonomy: We don’t micromanage. Everyone chooses what to work on next based on customer impact.
- Shipping fast: We build around small, autonomous teams who own products end-to-end.
- Time for building: We are natively remote and default to async communication (PRs > Issues > Slack). Tuesdays and Thursdays are meeting-free days.
- Ambition: We aim for massive upside and solve big problems.
- Being weird: Doing unconventional things is our competitive advantage.
Job Summary
PostHog bills on customer usage, meaning we recognize revenue on a usage basis. This involves figuring out what we actually earned and making sure the books reflect that accurately every month, on time, every time. We need someone to own this entirely.
You’ll be expected to understand where every dollar of revenue comes from, how it was recognized, why it was recognized that way, and exactly when it was collected, working closely with the finance team, billing engineers, and RevOps.
What you’ll be doing
- Own daily revenue accounting operations for usage-based billing: journal entries, deferrals, recognition schedules, reconciliations, collections, and billing inquiries.
- Execute the revenue side of month-end and year-end close: hit closing deadlines, co-own the checklist, and report accurate financials on time.
- Manage accounts receivable: handle collections, keep cash flowing smoothly, and resolve billing questions from Sales or customers.
- Support our annual financial audit: organize revenue documentation, implement controls, and prepare audit workpapers.
- Own the finance side of our billing/accounting integration: lead the integration of our new billing ledger model with Campfire, our accounting ERP.
- Automate manual workflows to make revenue accounting operations more efficient as we scale.
