Software Engineer, Dev Velocity - Render

About Render

At Render, we’re building the modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. Our mission is to eliminate the tradeoff between the power of hyperscalers and the simplicity of developer-friendly platforms.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer on Developer Velocity, you'll design and build the internal platform, tooling, and automation that lets every Render engineer move quickly and safely. You'll drive changes in our local development environments, CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure, and the metrics we use to understand and improve how we ship.

What You'll Do

  • Improve speed and reliability: Invest in build and dependency tooling, caching, incremental builds, and monorepo ergonomics.
  • Accelerate CI/CD: Cut build, test, and deploy times while maintaining a safe path to production.
  • Optimize testing: Implement parallelization, smart test selection, and flaky-test detection.
  • Support AI agents: Build tools to provide agents with the right context and fast feedback loops.
  • Simplify patterns: Reduce toil through automation and instrument the engineering org with actionable metrics (DORA metrics).
  • On-call: Participate in an on-call rotation for critical systems.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience building developer-facing tooling, CI/CD systems, or internal platforms.
  • Experience driving cultural and process changes to improve engineering effectiveness.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of maintaining production systems.
  • Proficiency in Go (or willingness to ramp up quickly).
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
  • A data-driven mindset toward measuring developer productivity.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with Bazel, Concourse, or GitHub workflows.
  • Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Comfort working close to the metal (Linux, containers).
  • Security-minded approach to supply chain and deployment pipelines.

Benefits

  • 4 weeks of paid vacation.
  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
  • 100% employer-paid medical coverage; 99% dental and vision.
  • 401K plans, long-term disability, and life insurance.
  • Monthly lifestyle, cell phone, and internet stipends.
  • Home office stipend for remote employees.
  • Continuous learning benefits.
