About the Role

We’re seeking a talented software engineer, specializing in security and infrastructure, to help grow our product security team. You will move Tailscale forward while making it safer to use. The ability to think on your feet, collaborate with highly technical teams, and work asynchronously is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build security controls across diverse layers (cloud platforms, OS, Kubernetes, networks, CI/CD) to defend against adversaries.
• Improve security properties by identifying opportunities for privacy features, bug fixes, and defense-in-depth implementations.
• Audit infrastructure for technical security weaknesses and drive mitigations to resolution.
• Support engineering decisions with threat modeling and security analysis.
• Spend 25-50% of your time writing software vs operational/governance tasks.

What We Are Looking For

• Expertise in cloud platform security (AWS), multi-cloud networks, and cloud-agnostic system design.
• Familiarity with container security, orchestration, and authentication/authorization.
• Knowledge of internet/web security fundamentals (WAF, TLS, PKI, DNS).
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go preferred) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience in infrastructure security, threat modeling, digital forensics, or incident response.
• Knowledge of OS internals and networking protocols.
• Ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert during security incidents.
