Director, India - Zapier

About the Role

Zapier is seeking a Director, India to serve as the senior-most, India-based leader of our entity. You will act as both a statutory Board Director and General Manager, bridging global strategy with local execution. This is a pivotal role for a leader capable of building governance rhythms and operating discipline from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Serve as the primary liaison between India operations and global leadership; translate global strategy into local execution.
• Governance & Compliance: Act as a statutory Board Director, signing filings and ensuring full legal, tax, and regulatory compliance (including transfer pricing and audits).
• Operational Oversight: Lead India-based functions, establishing governance rhythms and driving a high-performance, remote-first culture.
• People Management: Own local people decisions including hiring, compensation, performance management, and employee relations in accordance with Indian labor laws (e.g., POSH).
• Stakeholder Management: Partner with internal finance, HR, and external advisors (e.g., Deloitte) to mitigate operational risks.

About You

• Experience: 15-20+ years of professional experience, with 5+ years in site leadership, GM, COO, or country-head roles for multinational companies.
• Compliance Expertise: Strong knowledge of Indian financial, legal, and statutory compliance, including experience working with Big 4 firms.
• Matrix Management: Proven ability to manage stakeholders in a global, matrixed organization.
• Leadership: Exceptional people leadership skills with a focus on hiring, performance management, and building trust across distributed teams.
• Statutory Readiness: Comfortable assuming statutory director responsibilities and the associated personal liability.
• Bonus: Prior experience setting up or scaling a Global Capability Center (GCC) in India.
