Device Infrastructure Services owns the full lifecycle of hardware and operating systems across 1Password. The team is looking for a Staff IT Engineer to lead its next chapter: a deliberate shift from legacy device management patterns toward DevOps and AI-enabled operations.
You will be the technical leader of this team, responsible for setting the roadmap for this transformation and making sure it gets executed. In this role, you will be in the build alongside the team, coaching engineers and raising the ceiling on what they are capable of.
What You'll Do
- Own the technical direction of Device Infrastructure Services, maintaining the tooling and standards that keep ~2,000 endpoints compliant, configured, and secure.
- Drive the technical adoption of a DevOps operating model for the fleet—config-as-code, version control, code review, and CI/CD pipelines instead of manual console changes.
- Lead the adoption of responsible agentic AI across the device team, building guardrails that establish what agents can execute autonomously versus actions requiring human checkpoints.
- Act as the final escalation point for high-severity endpoint incidents, including deep machine-level diagnosis across macOS and Windows hardware.
- Partner across IT, Security, and Product teams to build custom solutions and deliver key infrastructure initiatives.
- Evaluate and pilot new tooling (such as MDM platform migrations and patch management systems) and lead build-vs-buy decisions.
- Collaborate with product teams to advise on features from an enterprise deployment perspective and lead Customer Zero initiatives, piloting and stress-testing 1Password products internally.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of IT and enterprise endpoint management experience, including 2+ years at a senior or staff IC level, with a track record of managing endpoints using GitOps practices.
- Broad knowledge of enterprise endpoint management and deep operating system-level experience, with the ability to detect fleet-wide patterns and build permanent remediations.
- Practical experience applying AI tools to accelerate IT operations alongside the judgment to evaluate operational and security risks.
- Proven ability to define and drive technical roadmaps, balancing long-term strategic vision with tactical execution.
- Strong scripting and Infrastructure as Code capabilities (minimum Bash, Python, and Terraform), writing production-quality automation and conducting critical code reviews.
- Deep working knowledge of enterprise endpoint security fundamentals: encryption, patch/vulnerability management, EDR, least-privilege enforcement, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change, mentor engineers, and foster a collaborative, high-impact team environment.
