The Role

We are seeking an experienced IT Operations Specialist to help support our team members with IT-related tasks and ensure the security of our organization. The IT Team is 100% distributed and remote. This role reports directly to the IT Operations Manager.

What You'll Do

• Own IT support end-to-end—act as the reliable go-to for staff while turning recurring issues into durable fixes and automations
• Diagnose and resolve complex cross-platform problems across macOS, Windows, and Linux
• Partner with HR and Security on scalable onboarding and offboarding (access, devices, and lifecycle)
• Administer MDM platforms (e.g., Jamf, Intune)—including BYOD—harden posture, and improve enrollment and compliance workflows
• Own patch management: test, validate, and roll out updates safely across the fleet
• Deploy and secure endpoints and SaaS access in a Zero Trust environment—tighten controls without blocking the business
• Build and improve automations (scripting, APIs, tools like n8n) for provisioning, access, inventory, and operations workflows
• Manage device setup, software deployment, hardware shipping/receiving, and the firm’s IT asset inventory
• Support change management and procurement; collaborate on cloud/IaC-related IT changes where needed
• Train staff on IT topics and contribute to continuous improvement of systems, documentation, and processes
• Participate in weekend on-call (round-robin) and after-hours response as needed

What You'll Need (Must-Haves)

• Excited about Alpaca’s mission and what we’re building
• 6+ years in IT operations / systems engineering—proven track record of owning, hardening, and improving systems, not just answering tickets
• Proven solutions builder: reverse-engineers complex issues, ships durable fixes, and continuously improves what you own
• Strong technical proficiency across macOS, Windows, and Linux, including device lifecycle management
• Hands-on expertise with at least two enterprise MDM solutions: Jamf, Kandji, Intune, or comparable platforms
• Proven patch management experience, including testing, validation, and controlled rollouts
• Experience with Google Workspace, 1Password, enterprise SaaS administration, EDR, and SSO / identity workflows
• Solid understanding of Zero Trust environments and networking concepts to harden access and endpoints without business disruption
• Proven automation experience (scripting, APIs, workflow tools such as n8n) with working fluency in at least two programming or scripting languages
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments (GCP and/or AWS) and IaC (e.g., Terraform)
• Based to provide Eastern Time coverage; available for weekend on-call rotations
• Fluent English (written and verbal) with strong analytical and collaboration skills
• Team player with an ownership mentality

Nice-to-Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
• IT, security, or cloud certifications
• Prior ownership of IT automation platforms, workflow tooling, or internal ops repos
• Experience designing scalable onboarding, access, and offboarding automation
• Background in fintech or other regulated industries; familiarity with financial and privacy controls
• Strong business acumen to balance stakeholder urgency, security risk, feasibility, and budget
