About the Role
Canonical is seeking a self-motivated Python Software Engineer to join the Certification team. You will work at the interface of hardware and software, developing tools that ensure desktops, laptops, servers, and IoT devices provide a seamless Ubuntu experience. This role is centered in EMEA time zones and involves collaboration with global teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop new features for Python-based test automation tools like Checkbox.
- Invent new methods for remote, automated hardware testing.
- Build software counterparts to in-house testing hardware to support device enablement (graphics, hotplug, bluetooth, etc.).
- Write functional and performance tests to support hardware enablement and prevent regressions.
- Participate in international team meetings and travel 2-3 times per year.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in the Python programming language.
- A quality-oriented, pragmatic approach to software design.
- Interest in test automation methodologies.
- Previous experience working with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions.
- Ability to be productive and collaborative in a globally distributed team.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Passion for tinkering and hardware "maker" projects.
- Experience working in an agile environment.
- Hardware testing experience, particularly in the IoT space.
- Familiarity with the C programming language.
