Senior Design Manager (Infrastructure) - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead our Infrastructure Design team. You will play a pivotal role in making open source software accessible, ensuring our tools for developers and cloud engineers meet the highest standards of quality and usability. You will manage design teams, drive roadmap execution, and foster professional growth within your department.

What the role entails

• Quality Assurance: Review design work to ensure it meets our high standards.
• Team Development: Mentor individual designers and support their professional growth.
• Operational Excellence: Improve workflows, including production outsourcing and collaboration with Web Engineering.
• Stakeholder Management: Partner with the Engineering organization to define and validate outcomes.
• Design Systems: Evolve design systems and guidelines to drive consistency and efficiency.
• Leadership: Coordinate with design leadership to mature our collective practice and strengthen team culture.
• Community Engagement: Engage the open source community to ensure our work is legible and valuable.

What we are looking for in you

• A portfolio demonstrating outstanding UX design and technical savviness.
• Exceptional educational background in design or behavioral science.
• Full lifecycle experience from user discovery to implementation guidance.
• Commitment to transparent project delivery and meeting deadlines.
• Experience managing teams that interact with technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with quantitative optimization approaches.
• A passion for balancing consistency and innovation.
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
