About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Technical Product Manager to drive the vision and execution of our open source software portfolio. As a product manager at Canonical, you will act as a technologist with a passion for shaping market demands and elevating open source software. You will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from conception to delivery, blending technical expertise, strategic thinking, and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Lifecycle: Lead development, review goals, and prioritize work to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Strategy & Research: Conduct market research, analyze industry trends, and gather customer feedback to identify new opportunities.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate with engineering, design, marketing, and sales teams to align on strategy and resolve conflicts.
  • Communication: Clearly articulate product vision, status updates, and key decisions to stakeholders.
  • Go-to-Market: Partner with sales and marketing to develop GTM strategies, product documentation, and training materials.
  • User Experience: Conduct usability testing and iterate on products based on user feedback.

What We Are Looking For

  • Exceptional academic background (high school and university).
  • Strong understanding of Linux and the open source software community.
  • Technical knowledge of computer architecture, application development, datacenters, or cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining focus on key priorities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A strong sense of ownership, problem-solving skills, and a habit of continuous learning.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for company events.
  • For senior roles: Prior product management experience in the software industry.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with specific verticals (Telco, Finance, Automotive, etc.).
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Snaps).
  • Knowledge of networking technologies (IPv4/IPv6, routing, VPNs, etc.).
  • Experience leading distributed teams across different time zones.
