UX Designer - Developer experience

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a talented and technically minded UX Designer to join our Developer Experience team. You will play a vital role in turning complex, open-source software into efficient, intuitive products that empower developers globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build tools that enable users to build, package, and maintain open-source software.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to shape the future of developer experience.
• Support complex products through rigorous design processes and UX heuristics.
• Evolve and evangelize design systems to drive consistency and efficiency.
• Understand the broader scope of work and its interconnected technical constraints.
• Support working groups to enable horizontal design efforts across the company.

What We Are Looking For

• Exceptional academic track record (Bachelor’s or equivalent in UX, Design, or STEM).
• Passion for user experience, technology, and design.
• A commitment to continuous learning, flexibility, and a scientific approach to design.

• Confidence in user research practices and engagement with the latest design innovations.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present design positions clearly to engineers and executives.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks long).
