UX Designer - Infrastructure

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a talented and technically oriented UX Designer to join our Infrastructure design team. You will work with exceptional engineering teams to create intuitive, efficient open-source tools that power global cloud and compute clusters. This role is pivotal in shaping how complex systems are built and managed at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Design: Build tools for cloud experiences including MAAS, LXD, MicroCloud, and Canonical k8s.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product managers and engineers to shape the future of self-sovereign clouds.
  • UX Strategy: Apply deep UX heuristics to complex products and evolve design systems to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Design Leadership: Evangelize design standards, support horizontal working groups, and communicate complex design decisions to cross-functional stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education: Exceptional academic track record (Bachelor’s in UX, Design, or STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative).
  • Technical Mindset: Excitement about building things and working with real hardware.
  • Professionalism: Confidence in user research practices and engagement with the latest design innovation.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills; ability to present design positions with clarity to engineers and executives.
  • Mindset: Commitment to continuous learning, scientific curiosity, and a result-oriented drive.
  • Travel: Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks per trip).
