Lead Actuary, Coalition Re - Coalition

About Coalition

Coalition is the world's first Active Insurance provider designed to help prevent digital risk before it strikes. Founded in 2017, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance coverage and innovative cybersecurity tools to help businesses manage and mitigate potential cyberattacks.

About the Role

Coalition is looking for a seasoned actuary with deep reinsurance pricing expertise to help build out our world-class actuarial team. This role carries significant ownership across the full pricing lifecycle — from model development and portfolio analytics to treaty governance and executive communication — and demands an exceptional blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and leadership.

You will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our reinsurance pricing frameworks and actuarial models, setting the standard for analytical rigor across the team. This means independently structuring and pricing complex treaties, driving portfolio profitability reviews with actionable underwriting recommendations, and ensuring our pricing methodology stays ahead of cyber insurance developments and market shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end pricing of complex reinsurance treaties, including assumption development, cash flow projection, and risk/return optimization.
  • Develop, oversee, and enhance actuarial models, setting methodology standards and driving continuous improvement through dedicated project work.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear recommendations for internal and external audiences.
  • Act as SME to support the creation and maintenance of appropriate pricing risk governance controls.
  • Straddle the worlds of reinsurance, data science, engineering, and security experts to shape data-driven solutions.
  • Act as an ambassador for the actuarial team, fostering a solutions-driven approach and demonstrating a strong commitment to meeting stakeholder needs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in insurance pricing, with at least 4+ years in reinsurance.
  • ACAS or FCAS certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives.
  • Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial pricing and various reinsurance treaty structures.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey clear information to leadership and vulgarize complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take ambiguous problems and solve them in a structured, data-driven way.
  • Ability to think long-term strategically and operationally, striking the right balance between short-term deliveries and long-term outcomes.
  • Ability to influence partners and build strong relationships.
  • Ability to develop, assess, and monitor business metrics to optimize pricing proposals.

Bonus Points

  • Pricing experience in Cyber (re)Insurance.
  • Experience in building and monitoring advanced pricing frameworks.
  • Experience working with external regulators, carriers, and brokers.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $161,200 - $200,000 USD/year (based on geographic market and experience)
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Annual home office stipend and WeWork access
  • Mental & physical health wellness programs (One Medical, Headspace, Wellhub, etc.)
