Senior Staff Sales Engineer, Australia - Cockroach Labs

About the Role

We are looking to grow our rapidly expanding sales engineering team. As a Senior Staff Sales Engineer, you will help qualify and close opportunities with customers and partners, providing technical expertise through sales presentations, product demonstrations, and technical evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

• Trusted Advisor: Partner with the sales team to introduce CockroachDB to potential customers, educating prospects on unique capabilities and designing solutions to meet complex challenges.
• Technical Leadership: Lead product and solution briefings, build proof-of-concepts (POC), run live product demos, and prototype CockroachDB integrations.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, engineering, and support teams to solve customer challenges and improve the product.
• Objection Handling: Identify and address key technical objections, developing engineering strategies to resolve blockers to adoption.

The Expectations

• First 30 Days: Immerse yourself in the CockroachDB sales motion, build relationships with internal teams, and listen in on customer calls.
• After 90 Days: Lead customer meetings independently, conduct POCs, and work with Account Managers to build regional go-to-market strategies and account plans.

Requirements

• 10-12+ years of experience in solution architecture, technical presentations, and teaching prospective users software similar to CockroachDB.
• Experience developing software or infrastructure for scalable, distributed systems.
• Passion for complex technical problems and deep understanding of modern infrastructure and database technologies.
• Strong ability to build relationships with partners, customers, and open-source users.
• Collaborative spirit with a focus on providing actionable customer feedback to engineering.
• Flexibility to travel for customer meetings, events, and conferences.
