The Opportunity

The Engineering Manager is a hands-on, player-coach leadership role embedded with your team — daily standups, code reviews, architectural calls, delivery planning, and performance management — owning both the team's output and its growth.

This is a genuinely technical and leadership role. You are expected to write and review code, be a credible voice in architectural decisions, and stay current in your team's stack. You lead by demonstrating you can do the work at the highest level, not by title alone.

Build the bench, raise the standard, and keep the operating cadence sharp as the work and organization evolve. You work AI-augmented yourself, expect the same from your team, and push the team's craft forward with every new capability that lands.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Growth

  • Lead a team of engineers, owning both its delivery and development.
  • Lead a mindset and process of continuous improvement within the team, delivering small, compounding improvements via fast iterations.
  • Take responsibility for the professional well-being and career development of team members through regular 1:1s, growth plans, performance reviews, and direct feedback.
  • Develop the next layer of leadership — tech leads, senior engineers ready to manage, and ICs ready to step into staff roles.

Technical Leadership

  • Write and review code while remaining a credible voice in technical decisions.
  • Drive architectural and technical design decisions in partnership with senior ICs, ensuring alignment on approach and implementation.
  • Uphold engineering standards through thorough pull-request reviews and a healthy release process.
  • Apply sharp judgment in working AI-augmented and leading an AI-augmented team while maintaining high quality standards.

Roadmap & Delivery

  • Own team commitments, scope, timelines, and quality bars.
  • Run a disciplined cadence of planning, prioritization, and delivery without process bureaucracy.
  • Partner closely with Technical Product Owners and Product teams on scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
  • Translate broader business objectives into clear context and direction for the engineering team.
  • React decisively to changes by re-planning, re-prioritizing, and re-staffing as business needs shift.

Hiring & Collaboration

  • Own hiring for your team: interview thoughtfully, decide quickly, and maintain high standards.
  • Model management best practices, mentor peers, and raise the broader management bench.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels: upward to leadership, downward to empower senior engineers, and sideways to align with Product, Design, GTM, and Customer Success.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering management roles where you actively coded.
  • Hands-on experience building cloud-based SaaS products and running production services on Azure (and ideally AWS/GCP), owning availability, cost, and customer surface area.
  • Strong background in understanding and leading teams in the FinOps domain.
  • API-first mindset: building products fully functional and available through APIs for both humans and agents.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams (full-stack and data engineers).
  • Demonstrated ability to visibly transform engineering teams (velocity, technical quality, or team caliber).
  • Deep technical fluency in your team's primary stack, with current hands-on code writing and review skills.
  • Strong philosophy on hiring, coaching, performance management, and high-performing engineering operations.
  • Direct, candid communication skills and strong judgment under pressure.

Bonus Points

  • Strong Golang knowledge or hands-on experience.
  • Established AI-augmented workflows and experience applying AI tools/agentic workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple cloud providers.
  • Background in scaling teams, processes, or technical systems in growing organizations.

Full-Time Benefits

  • Unlimited Vacation
  • Flexible Working Options
  • Health Insurance
  • Parental Leave
  • Employee Stock Option Plan (ESPP)
  • Home Office Allowance
  • Professional Development Stipend
  • Peer Recognition Program
