Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend - Grafana Labs

The Opportunity

Grafana is an open-source observability product and platform that teams and plugin developers build on. The Frontend group shapes its user experience—from dashboards and visualization to navigation, search, and sharing—and the foundations that support engineering teams and community contributors across the ecosystem.

As Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, owning their performance, delivery, and customer outcomes. Frontend Platform enables teams to build reliable, high-quality experiences; Navigation helps users find and organize resources and move confidently through Grafana.

You’ll develop senior engineers, partner with Product and Design, and improve how teams work, including through AI and automation. We use Cloud-first rollout and experimentation to learn quickly, bringing relevant improvements to OSS and Enterprise.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Team Leadership: Be accountable for the performance of two distributed engineering squads: set clear expectations, delegate effectively, coach and develop each team member, give timely feedback, address performance gaps, and build a culture of trust and accountability.
• Hiring & Planning: Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning team capacity and skills with product priorities and longer-term needs.
• Discovery: Lead discovery with your squads by engaging directly with customers, community members, and internal users, combining their feedback with research and usage evidence to shape roadmaps and priorities.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs between customer needs, long-term investments, and operational demands.
• Delivery Management: Own delivery across both squads from discovery through rollout and measurement: set milestones, surface risks early, and intervene when commitments are at risk.
• AI & Automation Integration: Use AI regularly in your management work to synthesize research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting. Lead the adoption of AI and automation across engineering workflows.
• Engineering Direction: Set engineering direction with senior engineers for frontend foundations (developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability) and navigation, search, and resource organization.
• Standards & Quality: Set and uphold engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including how teams evaluate and validate AI-assisted work.
• On-Call & Observability: Participate in the engineering management on-call rota, coordinate responses, and drive improvements to reduce recurring disruption, regularly utilizing Grafana’s AI capabilities.

• Strong product and customer judgment, connecting engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes.
• Clear, concise written communication for working effectively in a remote, globally distributed organization.
• An appreciation for open-source development and the judgment to balance Cloud-first delivery with community and customer needs.
• Practical experience using AI and automation in your leadership work and guiding teams to adopt them effectively.

Bonus Points For

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions.
• Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products.
• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.
• Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Compensation: CAD 211,450 - CAD 253,740 (approx. USD $154K - $185K)
