Software Engineer, Compute - Vercel

About Vercel

Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company. We free people and agents to ship what’s next. As the team behind Next.js, v0, and AI SDK, we create products that help builders move from idea to production with speed, security, and exceptional developer experience.

About the Role

The Persistence team sits within Vercel's Compute division, owning the deep infrastructure within Hive—our compute platform. We focus on storage and state for all workloads, including Builds, Sandboxes, and Functions. As a Software Engineer, you will work on infrastructure running hundreds of instances across every region, rethinking low-level primitives and contributing to platform features like Fluid Compute and Persistent Sandboxes.

This role is based in London, UK. If you are within commuting distance of our London office, the role includes in-office anchor days. If you are located further afield within the UK, the role is fully remote.

What You Will Do

  • Manage and improve our fleet of clusters, running hundreds of instances globally.
  • Write Golang daily and use Terraform to provision infrastructure.
  • Utilize Nomad as our scheduler for managing workloads.

  • Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience with schedulers and orchestrators (e.g., Nomad, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with low-level virtualization or sandbox execution environments.
  • Product engineering experience with a focus on developer-facing impact.
  • Experience with on-call operations for large-scale distributed systems.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity.
  • Inclusive Healthcare Package.
  • Mentorship and support for professional development and events.
  • Flexible Time Off.
