Who We Are

Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners — especially in the places where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems make it harder. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive.

The Opportunity

Kin is building the platform for modern homeownership. We've expanded from home insurance into auto, flood, property tax appeals, and home financing. The next challenge is making all of it work together seamlessly while lowering the cost of launching and maintaining new products.

We're hiring a Director of Product Management to oversee two critical strategic initiatives:

  • Policy Platform: Lead the move from insurance company economics to platform economics. Build configurable policy event engines, a normalized data architecture, and a single source of truth for product rules and coverages across all Kin products.
  • Kin Customer Portal: Oversee product strategy for the digital destination where homeowners protect, finance, maintain, and improve their homes, ensuring multi-product adoption delivers continuous customer value.

In this leadership role, you will build and develop a team of PMs, set product quality standards across both domains, and partner closely with engineering, design, and executive leadership on fundamental architectural decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the multi-year product strategy for Kin's policy platform and customer experience, translating long-term business goals into a clear, sequenced roadmap.
  • Lead, develop, and hire a team of product managers; raise the bar on craft, analytical rigor, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Balance prioritization decisions between foundational platform work and customer-facing features.
  • Partner with Engineering leadership on API strategy and configuration models to accelerate new product launches and regulatory adaptability.
  • Drive the Home Hub into a primary digital destination for managing existing products and discovering new services.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Design, Actuarial, Underwriting, Finance, and Legal to minimize friction in cross-functional delivery.
  • Define and track domain success metrics to continuously refine roadmap strategy.
  • Partner with Engineering and Data Science to integrate AI-native workflows, automation, and intelligence capabilities across platform and customer touchpoints.

Expectations (First Year Success)

  • Establish a clear, sequenced platform roadmap that enables engineering to build with high confidence.
  • Define a customer portal strategy that measurably increases retention and average revenue per customer through multi-product adoption.
  • Develop and elevate the PM team's capabilities, setting clear standards as the PM discipline evolves alongside AI.
  • Document and standardise platform configuration and APIs so new product launches become configuration-driven rather than custom code.
  • Accelerate the timeline for launching and maintaining new products compared to prior baselines.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience: 12+ years of professional experience, including 8+ years in software product management and 3+ years managing and developing PM teams.
  • Platform & Consumer Focus: Proven background managing both core platform/infrastructure products and consumer-facing applications.
  • Re-Platforming: Experience managing large-scale platform modernizations or migrations without disrupting live operational workflows.
  • Technical Depth: Fluency in software architecture and data models to evaluate scalability, reliability, and regulatory implications.
  • Domain Expertise: Prior background in Fintech, Insurtech, or Financial Services dealing with pricing logic, regulatory constraints, and trust.
  • Leadership: Track record of recruiting, mentoring, and growing high-performing Product Managers.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored for executive and technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with insurance policy administration systems or consumer financial platforms.
  • Experience building or scaling multi-sided product ecosystems.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Equity: Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) as part of standard compensation.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with company match up to 4%.
  • Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision plans, plus company-funded HSA contributions (dependent on plan).
  • Life & Disability: Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability; options for long-term disability.
  • Wellness: Access to mental health resources, confidential counseling, and supplemental insurance options.
  • Time Off: Flexible PTO for exempt employees (typically 15–20 days/year) plus 8 paid company holidays.
  • Parental Leave: Up to 14 weeks paid at 100% for birthing parents and 8 weeks at 100% for non-birthing parents.
  • Growth: Professional development budgets for approved certifications, conferences, and courses.
