About n8n
n8n is the open workflow orchestration platform built for the new era of AI. We give technical teams the freedom of code with the speed of no-code, so they can automate faster, smarter, and without limits. Backed by a fiercely inventive community and 500+ builder-approved integrations, weβre changing the way people bring systems together and scale ideas for impact.
Since our founding in 2019, weβve grown into a diverse team of over 260 - working across Europe and the US, connected by a shared builder spirit and with our centre of gravity in Berlin.
The Role
Your main goal will be to make n8n's Core Platform ready for the company's next stage of growth: more scalable, reliable, secure, and flexible as customer usage and technical complexity increase. You'll own the foundations that everything else, including our AI and agent capabilities, is built on.
Responsibilities
Own the Core Platform Strategy & Roadmap
- Strategy & Roadmap: Define and communicate the product strategy and roadmap for the Core Platform in partnership with Engineering and Product leadership.
- Prioritization: Prioritize foundational investments based on customer impact, enterprise needs, technical risk, and engineering effort, making trade-offs between near-term customer needs, technical debt, and long-term architecture explicit.
- Product Discovery: Lead product discovery for technically complex problems, engaging directly with enterprise customers and internal customer-facing teams.
Scalability, Reliability & Execution Engine
- Execution Engine: Drive work on the scalability and reliability of n8n's execution engine, including areas like worker pools and distributed execution.
- Deployment Setup: Improve the reliability of triggers and execution behaviour across complex deployment setups, from multi-main Cloud environments to self-hosted enterprise installations.
- Security: Shape a more secure and flexible approach to executing code within n8n.
Major Releases & Cross-Org Alignment
- Release Planning: Drive the planning and release of major or breaking platform versions, including migration strategy, stakeholder communication, and risk management.
- Success Measures: Establish clear success measures and keep the squad accountable for outcomes, not only delivery.
- Cross-functional Bridge: Act as the bridge between the Core team and the wider org (Product, Sales, Solutions Engineering, Customer Success, and Support), making platform trade-offs legible without oversimplifying them.
- Internal Enablement: Treat internal product teams as customers of the platform: proactively mine their roadmaps for implicit platform requirements and turn cross-cutting needs into explicit Core Platform work before they become blockers.
Requirements
Must-haves
- Platform Product Experience: 5+ years in Product, with at least 2 to 3 years on platform, infrastructure, developer-facing, or backend/API products.
- Technical Depth: Credible with senior engineers. Ability to reason about distributed systems, execution models, and reliability/scalability trade-offs, and hold your own in architecture discussions.
- Complex Delivery Track Record: Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives with real delivery risk, ideally including a migration or breaking change.
- Prioritization Under Ambiguity: Ability to make trade-offs explicit and connect foundational or technical-debt work to customer and commercial outcomes.
- Ownership and Autonomy: Proactive problem solver who drives outcomes without waiting for direction.
- Exceptional Communication: Ability to make complex platform topics understandable for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
- Enterprise Platform Reality: Understanding of running software in customer-controlled environments, including self-hosted, air-gapped, and restricted deployments.
Nice-to-haves
- Hands-on Ability: Ability to read code or prototype.
- Enterprise Exposure: Experience with B2B SaaS requirements like security, compliance, or deployment complexity.
- Security Partnership: Comfort working with security teams on code execution, isolation, or compliance topics.
- Domain Familiarity: Knowledge of workflow automation, orchestration, or open-source / developer-community products.
- Writing Culture: Default to writing things down to create clarity and alignment.
