About the Role
We're looking for a Staff/Principal Product Manager to own the vision and roadmap for Render's datastores portfolio, with our Postgres offering at the center. You will define what a modern managed database experience looks like, including how database products adapt to new state patterns from agents and how agents as users of state-keeping products should be accommodated.
You'll drive the technical and strategic direction for Render Postgres and our broader data layer, working directly with your team and infrastructure engineering to shape architectural decisions.
What You'll Do
- Own the Vision: Define the strategy and roadmap for Render's datastores, spanning provisioning, lifecycle management, high availability, disaster recovery, backups, scaling, and the extension ecosystem.
- Drive Prioritization: Balance foundational reliability work (replication, failover, storage performance) against near-term business needs.
- Partner with Engineering: Shape the technical direction of the data layer to ensure architectural decisions optimize for durability, performance, and operational simplicity.
- Innovate for AI: Develop an opinionated point of view on how managed Postgres must evolve for AI-native builders, including vector workloads and programmatic database management by agents.
- Set Standards: Provide clear guidance and abstractions that allow teams to run production databases with confidence without needing a dedicated DBA.
We're Looking For
- 7+ years in Product Management, with a focus on databases, data infrastructure, developer tools, or platform products.
- Deep familiarity with Postgres architecture, operational models, and the ecosystem.
- Strong developer empathy and the technical depth to make sound architectural tradeoffs.
- A track record of turning ambiguous, high-stakes infrastructure problems into clear strategy and shipped outcomes.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience as a database engineer, DBA, or infrastructure engineer.
- Hands-on experience with Postgres internals, replication, or extensions (e.g., pgvector, PostGIS).
- Experience building AI agents or the data infrastructure that powers them.
Benefits
- 4 weeks of paid vacation.
- 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
- 100% employer-paid medical coverage; 99% employer-paid dental and vision.
- Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.
- Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health, and hobbies.
- Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.
- Home office stipends for remote employees.
- Continuous learning benefits.
