What You'll Be Doing

ClickHouse is the core infrastructure at PostHog. Every product and customer relies on it to ingest, store, and query data. We need an engineer to automate, manage, and maintain ClickHouse as we scale toward trillions of events per year and manage one of the world’s largest clusters (handling over 100 PB of data).

• Infrastructure Scaling: Automate and maintain ClickHouse operations, including node and instance-level performance optimization.
• Provisioning: Build systems for dynamic provisioning of instances using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
• Performance Engineering: Investigate and experiment with cloud hardware to find optimal setups. You will have a dedicated budget for this.
• Query Optimization: Work on query performance tooling and bleeding-edge implementations, such as open-format backed tables.

You’ll Fit Right In If:

• OLAP Expertise: You have deep experience with the internals of ClickHouse or similar OLAP databases.
• Automation Skills: You are proficient in automating dynamic provisioning using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
• Scale Experience: You have experience operating high-scale, complex data storage solutions.
• Tech Stack: You are comfortable working with Python, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, AWS, and Zookeeper (or alternatives).
